Resident Services

Benedict House provides a full range of supportive services for residents through our Resident Services, Case Management, and Cognitive Services programs. This allows for the development of ongoing, individualized social support networks, available to residents twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. At the time of admission, each resident is linked with two staff members who function in the role of resident advocates. They meet with residents each time they are working. Some encounters may be more in depth and problem-solving focused, while others may be lighthearted opportunities for socialization.

Supportive counseling is an important and vital component of our program and helps residents improve the quality of their lives while helping them to learn how to become better communicators and listeners. Staff also work with each resident to develop a mutually agreed upon service plan, outlining the in-house services that the resident will receive as well as specifying which outside provider treatment programs he/she will choose to attend.

It is important to understand that supportive services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our caring, skilled staff is always available - at 3:00 in the morning or 7:00 in the evening.

Case Management Services

Benedict House provides primary case management services for all residents in the congregate and apartment housing programs. Continuity of care requires the coordination of the different services provided by various provider agencies. Our case management program covers a comprehensive range of potential resident needs and includes assistance with Department of Social Services, Social Security Administration, Medicare/Medicaid, and Veterans benefits initial and follow-up paperwork as well as assessments and referrals to appropriate medical, mental health, and specialized treatment based programs. These services begin at the time of intake and continue until a resident leaves our program. At the time of discharge, a referral is made for community-based case management services to an outside provider agency (e.g. AIDS Community Services, ECMC, Geneva B. Scruggs, etc.).

Cognitive Services

In response to the ever changing face of AIDS, particularly the significant increase in the number of referrals of individuals with dementia related to HIV disease, we have developed a more intensive cognitively-focused program (Cognitive Service Program). The residents who are assessed as appropriate for participation and who are enrolled in this program receive daily staff interactions designed to develop, to monitor and to promote the accomplishment of specific individualized behavioral goals. Goals range from the more traditional activities of daily living (toileting, wearing clean clothes, etc.) to maintaining adherence to smoking contract provisions and weekly socialization, recreational and exercise programs. Providing a highly structured behavioral management program for these residents has resulted in their abilities to live more independent and self directed lives.
